Birmingham African American Family Network

About us

We’re a parent-led volunteer group that’s dedicated to helping African-American students and families in BPS succeed. We meet families where they are and help them navigate their educational journey so they can leave BPS prepared to pursue their dreams. Our success is BPS’s success.

OUR VISION

In summary, the Birmingham African American Family Network envisions a future where African-American families are united, prosperous, and celebrated, with equal opportunities and equitable access to resources in Birmingham Public Schools. We are committed to working tirelessly towards achieving this vision, fostering a community that embraces and uplifts every African-American family.

OUR MISSION

  • To provide a voice for African-American families to the Birmingham Public Schools Central Office Leadership and Board of Education.
  • To increase African-American students in College Board Pre-AP and AP Courses at the Middle and High School Levels.
  • To increase cultural competence and responsiveness for educators as it pertains to the African-American experience.
  • To support African-American families with children of different learning styles and abilities.
  • To disseminate information to our family network on educational opportunities and social initiatives in BPS.
